  • Mosquitoes(e.g. those causing Dengue, Malaria, Chiungunya).
  • Flies (e.g. house fly, fruit fly).
  • Rodents (e.g. mice, rats).
  • Termites.
  • Wood Borers.
  • Bedbugs.
  • Lizards.

  • Birds.

The Pest Problem associated with the above list of pests by means of the transmission of foodborne disease. These pests  cause pathogens of Salmonella, Escherichia coli , Leptospira & Shigella and parasites of hookworm , pinworms & tapeworms . Additionally, cockroaches produce allergens that are known to aggravate allergies and asthma. Termites and wood borers damage the wooden structures.

Disease caused by Pests are pest problem too

10 Dreaded Disease Caused By Pests

 #1 Dengue

Dengue fever is also known as Break-Bone Fever.   A challenging pest problem or we can say the most dreaded disease caused by pests.

Dengue is transmitted by the bite of an dengueAedes mosquito. Which is infected with any one of the four dengue viruses. Dengue fever is a febrile illness .It affects infants, young children and adults. It is considered to be worst feared disease caused by pests.

Symptoms range from a mild fever, to incapacitating high fever. It includes severe headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pain, and rash. There are no specific antiviral medicines for dengue.

Disease # 2 Malaria Spread By Mosquito

Malaria is caused by a parasite called Plasmodium. It transmitted via the bites of infected mosquitoes. In the human body, the parasites multiply in the liver, and then infect red blood cells.

Symptoms of malaria include fever, headache, and vomiting. These Symptoms usually appear between 10 and 15 days after the mosquito bite. maleriaIf not treated, malaria can quickly become life-threatening by disrupting the blood supply to vital organs. In many parts of the world, the parasites have developed resistance to a number of malaria medicines. It is very common among the disease caused by pests.

Malaria is transmitted exclusively through the bites of Anopheles mosquitoes. The intensity of transmission depends on factors. factors  related to the parasite, the vector, the human host, and the environment. This disease is caused by pest. Its a pest problem too.First, we have to fight the pest problem to control the malaria .For details on control measure, click to mosquito control.

Disease # 3 Salmonellosis Carried by Rats & Cockroaches

Cockroaches, mice and rats carry salmonella in their bodies and shed it in their feces. Salmonella is salmonellosis-carried-by-cockroachesthe second leading cause of bacterial foodborne illness. It causes high fever, vomiting and diarrhoea. Severe infection can cause dehydration and death. As regards to food safety issues and particularly in food handling establishments, it is very critical disease caused by pests. So basically all the Disease are pest problem.Once we have control on pest, the diseases will be controlled automatically. For control measures, click to cockroach control.

Salmonella is an infection in the lining of the small intestine caused by Salmonella bacteria. It is one of the most common types of food poisoning. It occurs when you swallow food or water that contains the salmonella bacteria. The salmonella germs may get into the food you eat (called contamination) in several ways. Food inspectors most very high attention particularly to this disease caused by pests.

Disease # 4:Cockroach Allergy and Skin Infection

Disease # 5 Chikungunya Caused By Mosquitoes

Chikungunya is a viral disease that is spread by mosquitoes. Here again we can see that the reason behind every disease is pest problem. Once we get rid from pest problem all the Disease problem will be automatically solved.

It causes fever and severe joint pain. Other symptoms include muscle pain, headache, nausea, fatigue and rash. The disease shares some clinical signs with dengue. It can be misdiagnosed in areas where dengue is common.

There is no cure for the disease. Treatment is focused on relieving the symptoms. The proximity of mosquito breeding sites to human habitation is a significant risk factor for Chikungunya. Of late, the occurrence has increased and we hear more of this amongst the disease caused by pests.

Signs and symptoms

The incubation period of chikungunya disease ranges from one to twelve days, usually two to three. Its symptoms include a fever up to 104 °F, a petechial or maculopapular rash of the trunk and occasionally the limbs. Arthralgia or arthritis affecting multiple joints. Other nonspecific symptoms can include headache, conjunctivitis, slight photophobia and partial loss of taste.

Typically, the fever lasts for two days and then ends abruptly. However, other symptoms—namely joint pain, intense headache, insomnia and an extreme degree of prostration—last for a variable period; usually for about five to seven days.

Disease # 6 Leptospirosis -Leptospira bacterium is found in water contaminated by animal urine & Rodents carry and spread this

Leptospira bacterium is found in water contaminated by animal urine. Rodents carry and spread this bacterium that causes Leptospirosis. Pet owners need to be especially careful and ensure that their home is rodent free. They should also take steps to prevent themselves and others from becoming infected with the disease due to their infected pet. It is a part of pest problem and  also  a most dreaded disease caused by pests.

For control measures, click to rodent control.

Recreational activities: fresh water swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and trail biking in warm areas.

Household exposure: pet dogs, domesticated livestock, rainwater catchment systems, and infected rodents.

Symptoms: •Dry cough • Fever • Headache • Muscle pain • Nausea, vomiting & diarrhoea • Shaking chills.

Disease # 7 Typhoid Caused by Common Pest Requiring Pest Control

The most famous asymptomatic human carrier was Mary Mallon (commonly known as “Typhoid Mary”), a young cook who was responsible for infecting at least 53 people with typhoid, three of whom died from the disease.

Sanitation and hygiene are the critical measures that can be taken to prevent typhoid. Typhoid can only spread in environments where human feces or urine are able to come into contact with food or drinking water. Careful food preparation and washing of hands are crucial to prevent typhoid.

Disease # 8 Viral Hepatitis A Caused by Common Pest

Viral hepatitis is liver inflammation due to a viral infection. Hepatitis A or infectious jaundice is caused by hepatitis “A” virus (HAV). It  is associated with ingestion of contaminated food and often the culprits are pest. People can get the plague when they are bitten by a flea that carries the plague bacteria from an infected rodent. For control measure, please click to rodent control.

In August 1994, health officials reported unusually large numbers of deaths of domestic rats in a village of Surat. This triggered the biggest post-independence migration of people in India with around 300,000 people leaving Surat city in 2 days. Due to the migration of infected people from Surat city, suspected plague spread to five states. Within a very short period, a total of 693 suspected bubonic & pneumonic plague cases were reported to WHO by Government of India.

The Black Death (1347 – 1351):

The Black Death (also known as The Black Plague or Bubonic Plague), was one of the deadliest pandemics in human history. The total number of deaths worldwide is estimated at 75 million people. Approximately 25–50 million of which occurred in Europe. The plague is thought to have returned every generation with varying virulence and mortalities until the 1700s.

Great Plague of London (1665 – 1666):

The Great Plague (1665-1666) was a massive outbreak of disease in England that killed 75,000 to 100,000 people. That was up to a fifth of London’s population. The disease was historically identified as bubonic plague. An infection by the bacterium Yersinia pestis, transmitted through fleas.

Disease # 10 Cholera Caused Due to Contaminations Spread by Cockroaches & Flies

Cholera is an infection in the small intestine caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. The main symptoms are profuse, watery diarrhea and vomiting. Transmission occurs primarily by drinking water or eating food that has been contaminated by the feces of cockroaches & house flies. In past, huge number of population used to die just due to this and it was most dreaded disease caused by pests.

The severity of the diarrhea and vomiting can lead to rapid dehydration and electrolyte imbalance, and death in some cases.
